BERU pressure sensor glow plug received the Automechanika Innovation Award 2006
The 6th Automechanika Innovation Awards will be presented in Frankfurt, on 12 September 2006. BERU has won the “Parts” category with its PSG pressure sensor glow plug.
(Ludwigsburg, September 04, 2006) In the run-up to the Automechanika show in Frankfurt, the leading international show for the automotive industry, a jury of the top-class experts from the fields of science, the media and industry associations has decided the excellent innovations on which it wishes to bestow the Automechanika Innovation Award 2006. BERU won the “Parts” category of this internationally coveted prize for its PSG pressure sensor glow plug.
In total, the jury considered more than 100 nominations from over 80 companies in 15 countries. Of these, 13 outstanding new developments were chosen in the product categories “Parts”, “Systems”, “Tuning”, “Accessories”, “Repair/Diagnostics”, “Repair/Services”, “Body Repair/Maintenance” and “Service Station/Car Wash” to be honored with the Automechanika Award.
The prize will be presented at 10 am on September 12, during the opening party at the Frankfurt trade fair. The PSG pressure sensor glow plug from BERU and all other recognized products have been given pride of place throughout Automechanika in a special exhibition in the foyer of Hall 4.1. In addition, Messe Frankfurt is offering authorized trade visitors guided fair tours to the BERU AG stand, A 31 in hall 3.0, as well as to the stands of the other winners of the Innovation Award.
Technological leadership through R&D
Marco von Maltzan, Chairman of the Board of BERU AG, will receive the award in Frankfurt on behalf of the world’s leading supplier in the area of diesel cold-start technology. “We are proud,” says von Maltzan, “that BERU has been honored with this Innovation Award seal of quality for its pressure sensor glow plug. BERU currently employs some 220 people from our R&D teams to work on innovations in ignition technology, diesel cold-start technology, electronics and sensor technology. The benefits are appreciated both by our OEM partners and by BERU’s customers in the vehicle spare-parts trade and in workshops, thanks to the future attractive sales potentials.”
With the intelligent PSG pressure sensor glow plug, automobile manufacturers are able to comply with the increasingly strict exhaust fume limits for diesel-powered vehicles. In addition, BERU’s innovation, which has already been awarded with several other awards, provides accurate and stable pressure signals from the engine combustion chamber, allowing creation of a closed-loop regulatory circuit. The PSG consists of an extremely robust heating rod from the BERU ISS diesel Instant Start System, combined with a piezo-resistive sensor that cyclically records the quickly changing pressure levels in the combustion chamber and passes this information on to the engine’s control electronic.
The BERU PSG already has mass-production orders for use in the diesel-fuelled vehicles of two of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers. The intelligent pressure sensor glow plug will be integrated into the production lines from the end of 2007.
