Outstanding quality, excellent service: BERU wins Ducati Supplier Award

With its Supplier Award 2006, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati Motor S.p.A. once again honored the outstanding services provided by the Ludwigsburg-based BERU AG company.

(Ludwigsburg, August 31, 2007) The coveted Supplier Award presented by the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, was awarded for 2006 - and therefore for the third time in a row - to BERU AG. The award attests that the Ludwigsburg-based supplier once again achieved top marks for product quality and customer service. “I am particularly pleased that we have managed to once again fulfill the high standards set by the Ducati Motor S.p.A. with regard to product innovation and supplier service”, explained Dr. Rainer Podeswa, BERU Board Member for Research, Development and OEM Sales. BERU has been supplying the traditional Italian company since 2001, and it has already won the Supplier Award for the years 2004 and 2005.

Tension running high for high-tech bikes

BERU makes top-quality pencil-type ignition coils for maximum performance where space is at a premium, for example for the Ducati fleet high-end model, the powerful, 200 hp Desmosedici RR. The limited edition, hand-made road version of the four-cylinder Grand-Prix machine, the Desmosedici GP will be available as of September 2007 with a 989 cc engine. BERU pencil-type ignition coils for the four-cylinder engine with 16 (Italian: sedici) valves and desmodromic engine control, come with an integrated control line, which leads to a connector. This is fastened straight onto the chassis of the racing replica and therefore decoupled from the engine. Advantage of this design: The engine’s high vibration levels are not transferred to the plug connection.

BERU pencil-type ignition coils for the Ducati bike are made of high-grade materials in line with the finest technical standards, and can thus withstand extreme demands in terms of temperature resistance, vibration resistance and ignition voltage. Another technical special feature of BERU pencil-type ignition coils: Their closing sparks are suppressed, and therefore any unwanted ignition is prevented. BERU achieved this through a high voltage diode connected to the internal ground lead of the ignition coil.

The specialist for Ignition Technology, Diesel Cold-Start Technology, Electronics and Sensor Technology, is the sole supplier in the ignition coil product group for Ducati Motor S.p.A. The Muggendorf location and the Group’s main plant in Ludwigsburg are responsible for manufacturing ignition coils on highly-complicated production lines in tried-and-tested BERU brand quality. The production systems are modular in design, extremely flexible and they can be quickly extended, augmented or converted to match customer requirements.

Top coils for the automotive industry

Be it plug-in ignition coils or pencil-type ignition coils, ignition strips, ignition coil blocks for four, five or six-cylinder engines, high-tech coils with integrated electronics or single-spark ignition coils. BERU can provide the matching specific solution for any four-wheeled vehicle in original-equipment quality. This applies to almost 160 types of ignition coils, for almost every customary vehicle model: From Alfa Romeo over DaimlerChrysler, Porsche, Renault and on to Volkswagen.
