BERU optimizes the package design for retail products

Innovations bring customers into the workshop and wholesalers benefits for service and handling.

(Ludwigsburg, 22 August 2008) Professional package design focuses attention on the benefits of a product. Packaging for retail products should thus be informative, practical, but also aesthetically pleasing. For this reason, BERU has redesigned its retail packaging and aligned it with the new corporate design of the company. BERU ignition cable sets and glow plugs are already being offered to customers in workshops and sent to wholesalers in the new optimized outfit; BERU spark plugs are the next to follow.

Even more value for workshops and wholesalers

Two new features are especially beneficial for shop professionals. BERU spark and glow plug packages will now list the specified tightening torque: It is no longer necessary to take time to look up the values. The pictogram indicating “Installation only by a qualified technician” that is used around the world is also new. It was developed by the “Working Group – Retail Business for Suppliers” of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). This VDA working group includes 25 large manufacturers that supply parts to the German automobile industry – including BERU AG in Ludwigsburg. The new pictogram on the packaging indicates clearly to the end user that the product’s manufacturer recommends installation by a qualified technician at a workshop in order to optimize the customer’s benefits when it comes to quality and safety.

Rugged packaging protects products against damage that can result from being dropped, for instance. The specialist for ignition systems, diesel cold-start technology, electronics and sensors from Ludwigsburg will also successively introduce cardboard sleeves around the electrodes and threads of spark plugs. Another important aspect of the BERU packaging is the 13-digit EAN Code. The European Article Number is printed on BERU packaging in the form of a machine-readable bar code. It can be read by bar code scanners and provides BERU’s wholesale customers with problem-free handling of BERU products in their logistics chain all the way up to the Point-of-Sale.
