BorgWarner BERU Systems Extends Aftermarket Product Range with Electrical Fans

BorgWarner’s Wide Range of OEM Quality Fans and Fan Drives Suitable for Passenger Cars

Ludwigsburg, Germany, September 17, 2010 – BorgWarner BERU Systems offers more than 130 OEM-quality, fuel-saving, low noise and maintenance-free electrical fans for conventional passenger car applications with transversely mounted engines. Among others, BorgWarner fans fit vehicles manufactured by Audi, Fiat, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Renault. For fast and easy fan replacement, the electrical vehicle fans are pre-assembled and consist of a fan motor with electronic control unit, a fan wheel and, if required, a fan housing (or fan shroud). The motors of the electrical fans are fitted with an internal protective diode, which switches the drive off in the event of overheating. To ensure long service life and prevent premature material failure, the fan wheels are made of nylon with a high fiberglass content of 25 to 30 percent. BorgWarner BERU Systems electrical fans are designed to perform in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius and as high as 150 degrees Celsius. Depending on the vehicle model, they are installed ei-ther in front of the radiator or between radiator and engine.

BERU workshop tip: Maintaining fans and fan drives properly

Fans and fan drives ensure that the temperature of the engine’s cooling water remains within the optimum range and the engine does not overheat, especially when operating under high load. The speed at which the fan wheel rotates is determined by a (Visco-) clutch.

Because engine cooling impacts overall engine performance, it’s important to maintain fans and fan drives properly. Dirt, outside impact or improper servicing can cause reduced performance. If a fan drive makes suspicious noises, the fan wheel spins more frequently than usual or the water temperature is consistently high, the fan drive should be inspected and potentially replaced immediately.
