New: BorgWarner BERU Systems Pressure Sensor Glow Plug (PSG) Now Available for Aftermarket
New Glow Plug Technology Used in Series Production of Diesel Vehicles by an Increasing Number of Automobile Manufacturers
Ludwigsburg, September 17, 2010 – BorgWarner BERU Systems is the first and only manufacturer supplying the multiple award-winning Pressure Sensor Glow Plug (PSG) to series production diesel vehicles throughout the automotive industry, including several models made by Audi, Opel and VW. With a growing number of automobile manufacturers installing the new PSG in its vehicles as standard equipment, BorgWarner BERU Systems will soon be supplying retailers and workshops with the intelligent glow plugs, giving its aftermarket partners the opportunity to build stocks in anticipation of growing demand for spare parts.
“BorgWarner BERU Systems has once again demonstrated its leadership in innovative products by developing and producing environmentally friendly technologies for diesel engines with the PSG,” said Dr. Thomas Waldhier, President and General Manager, BorgWarner BERU Systems. “Now, we are bringing this technology to the aftermarket for efficient and precise control of combustion processes in current and future diesel engines.”
The intelligent PSG supplies exact and long-term stable pressure signals required to establish a closed-loop control from the engine’s combustion chamber. The PSG consists of a robust heating rod and a piezo-resistive sensor, which cyclically records the quickly changing pressure in the combustion chamber and passes this information on to the engine’s control electronics. In this way, the PSG helps engineers reduce NOx where it starts - in the combustion chamber.
The Pressure Sensor Glow Plugs for dealers and workshops are available as: PSG 001 and PSG 002. They are also listed on the BorgWarner BERU Systems product finder at www.beru.com/productfinder, on the current BERU CD-ROM with catalogue, and on the TecDoc workshop information system.
